TECHNICIAN I – INSTRUMENT

Primary purpose of the job
Installs, cleans, calibrates, maintains, modifies, overhauls, re-commissions and tests all installed instrumentation and control systems, including pneumatic and electronic process control instrumentation. Assist in the maintenance and faultfinding, repair and calibration of gas turbine control and protection systems in accordance with prescribed routine and preventative maintenance procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Experiences

• Completion of full time secondary education, followed by a minimum of two years full time training in instrument maintenance, electronic and microprocessor equipment to Ordinary National Certificate level, except where good background and experience is advantageous especially relating to the oil and gas production industry, including gas compression. Any relevant courses to be taken into consideration.
• Fair knowledge of English, in both written and spoken.
• 3 years experience in the maintenance and repair of wide range of instrumentation, electronic, pneumatic, gas turbine and gas compression control and protection systems, logic microprocessor based control equipment.
• Should have a good knowledge of safety practices relating to the Oil/Petrochemical industry.

Knowledge, Skills and Experiences

• Completion of secondary 12 years education, as a minimum. Graduation is preferred.
• Good working knowledge of written and spoken English is essential.
• Shall be able to draft routine memos and correspondence.
• Shall be able to understand procedures, guidelines, workflow and directives.
• Good knowledge of computer systems, applications and software.
• Thorough knowledge of SAP.
• Shall be well versed in developing work oriented software programmes for enhanced work performance.
• A minimum 7 years experience in tendering/contract activities, preferably 3 years experience in the oil and gas industry.
