Background and Main Responsibilities:
UN Indonesia is in the process of preparing the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for 2011-15, which is set to begin in January and will be completed by end 2009. The UNDAF, which builds on the comprehensive analysis of the development challenges of Indonesia, will serve to pinpoint the collective UN response to critical development priorities of the country with strategic direction and expected results.
As an active member of UN Indonesia, UNESCO will be involved throughout the UNDAF process and provide its inputs both sectorally and intersectorally in carrying out the analytical work and in preparing the UNDAF. To this end, UNESCO will engage an Assistant to undertake tasks listed below.
The Assistant will perform his or her duties and responsibilities under the overall guidance of the Director and Representative of UNESCO Jakarta Office, and direct supervision of the Deputy Director and the Executive Assistant to Director, and in close collaboration with the Programme Sectors. Specific responsibilities are provided below:
- Provide administrative support to the UNESCO Team that will be set up to lead the UNDAF process on behalf of UNESCO
- Collect government reports, plans, development programmes, policy documents, research reports, etc. that are required to prepare the analytical report and UNESCO contribution to UNDAF
- Assist Executive Assistant and UNESCO Consultant in communication and coordination with other UN agencies involved in UNDAF preparation
- Attend inter-agency meetings on the development of the UNDAF, and ensure that follow up actions are communicated and taken in a timely manner
- Undertake additional responsibilities as may be assigned
Profile
- University degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Communications or other related field
- Knowledge of and interest in the development challenges and activities in Indonesia
- Familiarity with the work of UN in Indonesia
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
- Capacity to work in a team as well as independently
- Fluency in English and Indonesian
Conditions of employment
Salary scale is on par with nationally recruited UN staff scale at the level of GS 5
Duration: 9 months with no possibility for extension
